D2 BASEBALL: HERO Sports All-America Team (2018)

As the D2 Baseball Championships begin this weekend, we look back at the amazing performances from the 2018 campaign.

Being chosen from a long list of players who had great seasons, the following list consists of the 2018 HERO Sports D2 All-America Team.

Congratulations to these 10 players on their accomplishments this season! [divider]

Zack Shannon — Delta State

Leading D2 in several categories and winning the ABCA South Region Player of the Year, Shannon is a shoe-in for this list. Shannon also found himself as a Golden Spikes award semi-finalist, and if he wins, he would be only the fourth non-D1 player selected. [divider]

Chase Allen — Limestone

Breaking the school record for home runs, Allen has slugged his way into the conversation of best players in school history. Being named to the NCBWA D2 All-Southeast Region team, Allen's excellent season is getting national attention. [divider]

Justin Childers — Ohio Dominican

Childers finished his career with a fantastic senior season. With 20 doubles, over 40 walks and a GMAC Male Achievement Award, why not add an All-America team nod? [divider]

Alec Craig — Chestnut Hill

Leading the Griffins in batting average, RBI, and all of D2 in stolen bases, Craig finished his collegiate career in style. The recognition kept coming this year, as he won player of the week awards, and was recognized as a NCBWA All-East player. [divider]

Michael Rothmund — Illinois-Springfield

Anchoring the middle of the 47 win Prairie Star lineup, Rothmund's power was on display as he hit 20 doubles and over 20 home runs in 2018. Rothmund's success this year earned him a spot on the ABCA D2 All-Midwest Region First Team. [divider]

Josiah Gray — Le Moyne

Gray's transition to the starting rotation paid off big time for the Dolphins this season. Leading a pitching staff that helped the Dolphins to 34 wins, a NCAA Regional appearance, and most likely being drafted in the first few rounds of the MLB Draft, Gray had a pretty good 2018.  [divider]

Charlie Hecht — Georgia College

Breaking the Bobcats career strikeouts record, Hecht had an incredible 2018 season. Posting career highs in wins, strikeouts, and careers lows in ERA, walks, and runs allowed, Hecht was a key player for the Bobcats who went on to win the Peach Belt Conference championship.[divider]

David Lebron — Tampa

Lebron just keeps up with the success, marking his second straight South Region Pitcher of the Year award, NCBWA First Team, and posting some dominant stats in 2018. [divider]

Chris Vallimont — Mercyhurst

On the Lakers way to a World Series bid, Vallimont raked in the awards this season. Winning the Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, and the PSAC West Division Pitcher of the Year awards, Vallimont's performance this season did not go unrecognized. [divider]

Kolton Ingram — Columbus State

Ingram was flat out ridiculous in 2018, posting 129 strikeouts and 12 wins in the regular season. As the Cougars are headed to the D2 World Series, they've depended on Ingram to dominate all season, and at every turn, he delivered. [divider]
