The Free Pick has been pretty mediocre at NBA picks this season, and we dropped another one last night when the Clippers were bounced by Utah, 117-95.
As meh as we've been on pro basketball, we've been hot like fire out of the gate on the young MLB season. Today, we're headed to New York, where both starting pitchers are definitely going to give up some runs.

I'm guessing that you, dear reader, are not an Orioles fan, and that you have not watched 30 or 40 Kevin Gausman starts over the last three seasons. For your mental health, that is a good thing.
Gausman is a guy who appears to have all the potential in the world but can't seem to stop himself from getting beat up. Aaron Judge hit 6-for-12 off the poor guy last year; Brett Gardner and and Gary Sanchez are both over .300 for their career against him.
Gausman will inevitably get popped for a few today, though I don't think it'll be as bad as his first start in Houston. Sabathia won't fare much better, as the meat of the Orioles lineup hits pretty well off him, too. (Adam Jones and Manny Machado are both over .300 against Sabathia over the last five years.)
If you're looking for value, I think the Orioles are an interesting side at +158. However, the play we're rolling with today is over the posted total. If you shop around, you can find this line at various points between 9 and 9.5. Personally I'm rolling with the O 9.5 +100, but if you want the 9, you can still find it at -110. For the purposes of this column, we'll recommend the safer play.
