Am I the only one who thinks that any conference besides the Big East holding a tournament in Madison Square Garden is blasphemy?

The Free Pick has found its way back to the winner's circle yesterday after a couple of tough days. Central Michigan made us look really smart, as they throttled Ball State in the second half en route to a 75-51 win.
Today, we're looking at another point spread in college basketball, albeit in the Big 10.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. This game could be awful. But 11th-seeded Minnesota is set to face off against last-place Rutgers on Day 1 of the Big 10 tournament. Minnesota opened as a short favorite, but Rutgers has actually been bet up from a 2-point underdog to a 1-point favorite, as of shortly after noon on Wednesday.
Minnesota hasn't had an awesome season, but they have played pretty well against the bottom half of the Big 10. Meanwhile, Rutgers closed its season with a double-digit home loss to fellow cellar dweller Illinois. The Scarlet Knights have won only one game in the last month.
Why has Rutgers been bet up? I imagine it has something to do with New Jersey-based Rutgers playing a close-to-home tournament game, across the water in NYC. But if Rutgers buyers are counting on an outpouring of Scarlet in the Big Apple for a college basketball game, I suspect they'll be disappointed. Give me the Gophers to win outright as a surprise dog.
Pick: Minnesota +1
Bennett Rank Picks for February 28, 2018
Bennett evaluates early-morning point spreads, which is why he's got Minnesota as a 2-point favorite here instead of a 1-point dog. I didn't see his picks until after I had researched my own; it's nice to see his numbers support my play here. If the numbers support the Gophers at -2, you can bet his laptop would jump over the moon at +1.
The Bennett Power Score (BPS) was created as a point spread predictor on a neutral court. BPS is based on adjusted margins of victory and strength of schedule for games played to date. More recent games are weighted more heavily. These are updated twice daily as scores are reported and are the foundation for BennettRank (BR). BR ranks all major college sports and divisions twice daily. See all current basketball rankings here.
