Is there a worse day of the year than the Spring Daylight Savings Sunday?

On Saturday, we took a tough L in the Big 12 championship game, as Kansas came out on top in the final minutes of the game. Our consolation prize? At least the books got banged around a bit too, as there was plenty of public money on the underdog No. 1 seed.

We'll wrap up our pre-tournament picks with a play in today's American Athletic Conference championship game.

Houston vs Cincinnati (-4.5), 3:30 p.m. EST

Total: 129

I have no interest in touching the point spread here. Instead, I want to focus on the total, which is under 130 out of respect for the Bearcat's defensive prowess. KenPom rankings have Cincinatti pegged as the No. 2 team in college basketball for adjusted defensive efficiency; the Bearcats have been monstrously effective at covering unders all season. However, Houston is a gifted offensive team in its own right, coming in as a top-30 unit in adjusted offensive efficiency.

The game might be ugly, and the winner might not score 70, but I do think we'll get over 129. The over is the play here.

Pick: Houston/Cincinatti Over 129

Bennett Rank Picks for March 11, 2018

Tennessee +1 over Kentucky

Pull the trigger on this. I watched an ESPN segment this morning where the panel was all but crowning UK the SEC champs. It was super disrespectful to Rick Barnes and the Vols, who were co-champions of the SEC in the regular season after being picked to finish in the basement in October. I like Tennessee to win the SEC title.

The Bennett Power Score (BPS) was created as a point spread predictor on a neutral court. BPS is based on adjusted margins of victory and strength of schedule for games played to date. More recent games are weighted more heavily. These are updated twice daily as scores are reported and are the foundation for BennettRank (BR). BR ranks all major college sports and divisions twice daily. See all current basketball rankings here.
