Meyer has a career record 171-30. Only four of the losses have come in consecutive seasons to the same head coach, according to ESPN Stats and Info. As second-year head coach at Florida in 2006, the Gators lost to Tommy Tuberville and Auburn, 27-17, on the road. Despite the loss they still reached — and won — the BCS National Championship. A year later, Tuberville beat Meyer again, this time in Gainesville, 20-17.
Two years later, Nick Saban and Alabama beat Meyer and Florida, 32-13, in the SEC Championship Game on their way to a national championship. The Tide throttled the Gators the following year, 31-6, in Tuscaloosa.
James Franklin will try to join the exclusive group on Saturday when Penn State visits Ohio State in search of a second-straight win over the Buckeyes. The Nittany Lions stunned them in State College last year, 24-21, for their first win in the series since 2011. Penn State has not won consecutive games in the series since 1978 and 1980. And they haven't beat Ohio State in consecutive years since 1963-64.
