In today's "ohhhh ya that guy" news, Chris Laviano is on the move again. And this time, the former Rutgers quarterback and San Diego State grad transfer is pursuing a lacrosse career.
Laviano was a standout football and lacrosse player at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, N.Y. He was a three-star recruit and the nation's 31st-ranked pro-style passer in the 2013 class when he signed with Rutgers. After a redshirt season, Laviano appeared in 24 games over the next four seasons. The 6-foot-2, 221-pounder's best season came in 2015 when he threw for 2,247 yards and 16 touchdowns.
He then transferred after the 2016 season and enrolled at San Diego State as a grad transfer after spring practice.
“When I was leaving Rutgers, I wanted to find a school where I could get back under center and, obviously, play again my last year of eligibility,” said Laviano.. “I’m trying to contribute as much as I possibly can to this team, whatever that may be. I’m an older guy. I’m 22 years old. … Whatever I can contribute, whether that be working hard, experience or playing, whatever way possible, I’m going to attempt to do this season.”
Laviano not only couldn't beat out incumbent starter Chris Chapman, he was also listed behind Ryan Agnew on the two-deep depth chart last week. Now he's transferring again — this time to play lacrosse closer to home.

“He came to me and said he wanted his release so he could transfer someplace to play lacrosse,” Aztecs' head coach Rocky Long said. “I guess he was a good lacrosse player in high school. His lacrosse coach told him he can get him a full ride Division II scholarship tomorrow from five or six places close to home. He might even be able to get him a Division I scholarship.
“He’s kind of an expert on transferring. He told me his first class wasn’t until 7 o’clock tonight and as long as he didn’t go to class, he could transfer and be eligible. I don’t know that. I would guess he’s right because I’m sure he checked.”
Long also added that he used to get upset when players transferred but now is accustomed to it. Laviano has not said which schools he is looking at.
