The NFL season is here and that means fantasy football is here. As sit-or-start questions fly about this player or that player, a Los Angeles Rams wide receiver is getting interest as a potential starter — Cooper Kupp.

The former Eastern Washington wide receiver was the definition of prolific in college at the FCS level, setting just about every record he could over his four years. Many of those records stand as Division 1 records, FBS or FCS.
Now Kupp is in L.A. getting ready to catch passes professionally from Jared Goff, which begs the question — what is Cooper Kupp's Fantasy Football worth?
A quick look at the depth chart shows he has some work to do to crack the starting lineup:
Pos. | First | Second |
---|---|---|
WR | Sammy Watkins | Josh Reynolds |
WR | Robert Woods | Cooper Kupp |
WR | Tavon Austin | Pharoh Cooper |
Kupp is likely to see the field in four wide receiver sets, and, honestly, the only wide receiver listed on the depth chart who is for sure a better football player is Sammy Watkins, and he's had plenty of injury issues over the years.
Kupp is a rookie, so he'll need to earn his spot. But he enjoyed a nice preseason (8 catches for over 100 yards and a score in two games) and he's developing chemistry with Goff.
At this point, it's probably a wait-and-see situation with Kupp. Unless you're thin at wide receiver or play in a deep league with more than two starting WR slots, see what happens for the rookie in week one against the Indianapolis Colts.
He's is definitely a player to keep an eye on. Don't believe me? Listen to the latest episode of the "Move the Sticks" podcast and hear NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah speak glowingly about Kupp's opportunities in the L.A. offense.
Jared Goff isn't a world-beating quarterback and the Rams offense isn't going to scare anyone, but Kupp could be a sleeper you can rely on in the long run.
