After scoring three goals in 12 minutes, the University of Redlands men’s soccer team clinched the 2015 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship with a 3-1 victory over the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen Monday night.
It’s the program’s 13th overall conference title and the seventh under head coach Ralph Perez.
In the 30th minute, the Bulldogs (BR-101) got on the board off of a set piece following a Cal Lutheran foul. Senior midfielder Peter Marsden passed the ball into the box, where junior defender Tom Elsea finished the play by knocking the ball into the back of the net.
Less than two minutes later, Redlands took advantage of opportunity on a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Vidal Ornelas found Elsea, who tallied his second goal of the game. Sophomore forward Alexander Knox completed the first-half scoring barrage to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill improved to 9-0-2 on the season after a solid first-half performance that included three saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Ochoa contributed a solid 45 minutes and registered three saves.
Redlands (14-2-2, 12-2-1 SCIAC) will be the top seed into the SCIAC Tournament, which kicks off on Nov. 7.
