San Jose State and Hawaii lit up the skies last weekend.
The Spartans and Rainbow Warriors combined for 859 passing yards, the quarterbacks in the game threw five touchdowns, and five receivers finished with more than 100 yards. In the end, San Jose State’s aerial attack proved to be too much, and the Spartans picked up a 45-38 win.
Quarterback Walker Eget racked up 458 yards and two touchdowns through the air, and wide receiver Danny Scudero set a new career high with 215 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches. Purdue transfer Leland Smith added four catches for 113 yards, and Kyri Shoels finished with five grabs for 109 yards.
Eget will lead the Mountain West’s top passing attack against visiting Air Force on Saturday. The Spartans (3-5, 2-2 MWC) lead the conference with 313.4 passing yards a game.

Eget is first in the league with 2,607 yards and 17 touchdowns through the air. Scudero leads the country with 1,085 receiving yards, and he’s No. 2 in the nation with 10 receiving touchdowns. He has almost double the yardage of the next-leading receiver in the Mountain West.
Scudero, a transfer from FCS Sacramento State, has finished six games with more than 100 receiving yards this season. It’s the second-straight year that San Jose State has been home to one of the nation’s top receivers. Nick Nash finished with 104 catches for 1,382 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
Air Force quarterback Liam Szarka is having a special season of his own. He leads the Mountain West with 11 rushing touchdowns and ranks No. 2 in the conference with 816 rushing yards. He has also thrown eight touchdown passes, which is the most in a season by an Air Force quarterback since Donald Hammond III threw 13 in 2019.
The Falcons (2-6, 1-4) are coming off a 20-17 loss to Army. It was their third three-point loss since they fell 34-31 at Navy on Oct. 4.

Air Force vs. San Jose State Prediction
I predict San Jose State wins 33-27.
San Jose State’s passing attack is clicking on all cylinders again this year. Eget has been thriving, Scudero has been seemingly impossible to cover, and Shoels has really emerged in recent weeks. The Spartans rushing attack even showed up with four rushing touchdowns last week.
I think all of that is bad news for an Air Force defense that is giving up 35.1 points and 460.5 yards a game. The Falcons’ offense has been putting up enough points to keep them in close games, and I think they’re in for another one.
