Entering Thursday's games, 11-seeds were 55-97 (.362) vs. 6-seeds over the last 33 tournaments. With Loyola's win over Miami (FL) and wins from 6-seeds Florida (vs. St. Bonaventure) and Houston (vs. San Diego State), that mark is now 56-99 (.361).
Of those 55 winners, 50 played 3-seeds in the Second Round. It happened three times last year alone: (11) Rhode Island vs. (3) Oregon, (11) Xavier vs. (3) Florida State and (11) USC vs. (3) Baylor. Xavier was the only 11-seed winner and became just the 15th 11-seed to beat a 3-seed in the Second Round since 1985.
Side note: The only 11-vs-3 matchup that did not come in the Second Round was (11) George Mason's Final Four loss to (3) Florida.
Entering Loyola's game vs. Tennessee (and if 11-seed Syracuse beats 6-seed TCU on Friday), 11-seeds are 15-35 vs. 3-seeds in the Second Round of the tournament. Obviously, history has not proven to be a reliable predictor of tourney results, but for what it's worth, history says Loyola has a 30 percent chance of beating Tennessee on Sunday.
