It's surprising more people in Pullman, Wash., don't quit their day jobs and begin covering Mike Leach. Where else can you ask questions like, "What's the weirdest animals you've seen on one of your walks?" and "Do you consider yourself a pretty good tracker."
During Tuesday's press conference — after Washington State's ninth spring practice — Leach talked some football but, more importantly, he talked about his tracking adventures.
When asked about the "weirdest animals" he's seen when walking, he told a story of tracking a raccoon a half-mile down the road.
"Tracked a raccoon one time in the snow. Because I was in a neighborhood and I was curious where this raccoon lived, you know. And there's fresh raccoon tracks. He had been digging in somebody's garbage. So I followed the tracks. I don't even know if these people know it but he lives right in the back of their house in a bunch of brush and trees. And you could follow it right approximately where he's at."
"Well if its just blatantly obvious," he said when asked if he's a good tracker. "The snow, it was like on a cartoon. It was blatant tracks. It was residential enough. I was curious where this sucker lived. So I walked about a half-mile out of my way to sort that out."
