Most-Googled College Sports Team in All 50 States

Last week, Google Trends tweeted out a map of the most misspelled word in every state. Check it out:

I thought it would be cool to do something similar and make a Google search map of the most-searched sports team in each state. Google Trends has a "College Sports" category, which made things easy.

In this example search, I selected "Washington State" from the dropdown search bar for locations, "Past 12 Months" for the time, and "College Sports" for the category. Then reviewed the list of search queries.

Gonzaga was the top school listed in the search queries, so that's the school for Washington. It makes sense, since Gonzaga went to their first Final Four this season — and nobody knows where Gonzaga is:

There were definitely some surprises on this list (Nebraska Omaha anybody?). If you want to check my work, or do some research of your own, take a dive into Google search trends for yourself. There's all sorts of interesting data to mine there.
