Can anyone in Big 12 women's soccer stop West Virginia? The Mountaineers have been almost unbeatable in the league since joining up in 2012, and other than a few blips in the conference tournament, WVU has been the league bully. They got to the Elite Eight last year and will be looking to go one better this season, the final one for Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence in Morgantown.
Elsewhere, the conference is as unpredictable as ever. Last season wasn't exactly the league's best in terms of putting teams in the NCAA Tournament, so the rank and file will want to rectify that in 2016. The juiciest non-WVU subplot may involve the Big 12 Tournament holders Texas Tech, now trying to stay strong with the graduation of Janine Beckie.
Let's take a look at the Big 12 in our D1 Women's Soccer 2016 Preview. The projections below are my own, and they differ slightly from the preseason D1 Women's Soccer rankings by BennettRank since BR, as a computer poll, doesn't take roster turnover into account.
(Note: Kansas State, a Big 12 member, begins play in 2016 but does not play a full conference schedule and are not included in projections but are included in a preview.)
|My Projection||Team (Preseason BennettRank)|
|1||West Virginia (BR-5)|
|2||Oklahoma State (BR-37)|
|3||Texas Tech (BR-16)|
|8||Iowa State (BR-123)|
