Villanova had a harder time with No. 16 Mount St. Mary's than you'd probably guess. The Mountaineers kept it close until the second half, when Villanova grabbed the momentum and ran away with a 76-56 victory. Call it first round jitters, or having to wait for a play-in game to know your opponent, but it took the Wildcats about a half to get in gear.
Once they found their stride it was game-over. Wildcat freshman Donte DiVincenzo led 'Nova with 21 points, one of five Villanova players who scored in double digits. Villanova cleaned up on the boards as a team, winning the rebound margin 43-27.
Wisconsin had its hands full with Virginia Tech, and the two teams battled it out in a close 8-9 matchup. In the end, the Badgers closed strong and hit enough free throws to earn an 84-74 victory in a Thursday night thriller.
Bronson Koenig came up huge for the Badgers, shooting 8-of-17 from three-point range to score 28 points and lead the Badgers to a win. Nigel Hayes overcame the free throw shooting struggles he's experienced most of the season to hit 8-of-9 from the charity stripe and add 16 points and 10 boards to the Badgers' cause.
These two teams will meet for the first time in their collective NCAA Tournament history on Saturday.
Here's how to watch the defending champion Villanova Wildcats take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the round of 32.
