What does it take to build a Final Four roster? Clearly, recruiting the top talent in the country is one way to get there — as evidenced by the recruiting rankings of players on Kansas, Villanova, and Michigan rosters. But that's not the only way to go on a deep tournament run.

Just ask Loyola Chicago, who has just three players on its roster who were ranked by 247 Sports as high school recruits — former three-star recruits Cameron Krutwig, Christian Negron and Cameron Satterwhite. The other 13 members of Loyola Chicago's roster were all unranked by the site, and only two other players — Ben Richardson and Carson Shanks — even have recruiting profiles.
Contrast that with Kansas, whose roster is built around 10 former 4-star recruits, one 5-star (Malik Newman), one 3-star (Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk), and three walk-ons who were unranked.
Villanova and Michigan are more balanced than Kansas. Nova's roster features two former 5-star recruits (Jalen Brunson and Omari Spellman), five 4-star recruits, four 3-star recruits, and four unranked recruits.
Michigan has five former 4-star recruits, five 3-star recruits, a 2-star (Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman) and six unranked recruits.
Here's a look at the recruiting breakdown for each team:
