WNBA: Shey Peddy and Alaina Coates Join the Washington Mystics for 2020

The Washington Mystics have signed Alaina Coates and Shey Peddy to their 2020 roster the team announced on Monday.

Peddy appeared in 15 games for the Mystics in 2019 averaging 1.7 points and five minutes per game before being replaced by Emma Meesseman. The five-foot-ten guard was originally drafted by the Indiana Fever as the No. 23 overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Temple. She spent time with the Chicago Sky and extensive overseas playing experience in France and Turkey.

Six-foot-four Coates was original drafted as the No. 2 overall pick of the 2017 draft by the Chicago Sky out of South Carolina. During her two season career she has averaged 3.1 points, 3.0 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game. In 2019, Coates was signed to the Atlanta Dream with a training camp contract but was waived at the end of May.

It is unknown at this time if the Mystics will have additional players opt out of the season or earn a medical opt out. Medical opt outs are currently being reviewed and will need approval from the league. Currently Natasha Cloud and LaToya Sanders are the only Mystics players to opt out.

The 22-game WNBA season is set to tip off at the end of July and will be held at IMG Academy in Florida. Teams are scheduled to travel to their "bubble" a week from today on July 6th to prepare for the start of training camp.
