COMPARE: Junior Robinson vs. Trae Young
The 5-foot-5 Robinson scored 20 points in the Mountaineers' over St. Francis (PA) on Saturday. It was the senior's 18th 20-point game and seventh game with at least four three-pointers. He hasn't scored in single digits in the regular season since Feb. 11, 2017, and enters Thursday's game vs. Central Connecticut State averaging 21.6 points per game, 18th in the nation.
“He has high-major speed,” head coach Jamion Christian told Sports Illustrated last month. “We play these high-major teams, and he’s the fastest guy on the floor. He has high-major athleticism. He has high-major shooting ability, and high-major understanding of the game. You need big personalities and big egos. People get caught up on size. But he has both those things. All the things that’s happened since he’s been here, that’s not an accident.”
Robinson is one of five players under 6-foot who are averaging at least 20 points per game this season (as of Thursday, Feb. 8). Here are the other four.
Scoring Average: 24.8 PPG
Chris Clemons was the nation's leading returning scorer after averaging 25.1 points per game in 2016-17, and while his scoring average is slightly down, he's having a better season.
The junior is averaging 24.8 points per game on 45.7 percent shooting, including 38.4 percent from deep. Those numbers are up one and three percentage points, respectively, from a year ago. Clemons has four 30-point games and one 40-point game.
Scoring Average: 25.8 PPG
Jordan Howard's spectacular four-year career is ending on a high note.
The Arizona native has averaged at least 15 points per game each season and saved his best for last. Howard is shooting a career-high 47 percent from the floor, has scored fewer than 15 points only twice this season and has two 40-point games.
Scoring Average: 22
Markus Howard's 52-point explosion vs. Providence in early January made headlines but the Marquette sophomore has been obliterating the scoreboard all season.
While Howard's shooting clips are down, he's still averaging 22 points and has 13 games with at least 22 points.
Scoring Average: 20.5 PPG
Luwane Pipkins has scored 55 points in his last two games, boosting his scoring average to 20.5 points per game.
He scored 44 points in an overtime win vs. La Salle on 15-for-27 shooting, including 6-for-10 from deep.
