Which players will log significant minutes for your team this year? If you already know the starting five, can you share that with us?
“We return just two starters from last year’s team, but five players who saw significant time last season.
Leaders will be junior point guard Kelly Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), who was a third team All-Northeast-10 selection as a sophomore. Senior Paige Marshall (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) is a three year starter and top defensive player. Sophomore Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) is the reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Year and will look to help fill the void left by the departed All-America forward Tori Faieta.
Senior Shannon Brown (Las Vegas, Nevada/Centennial) will also likely move back into a starting role after missing the first half of last season with injury.”
What will be the biggest difference between this year’s team and last year’s team?
“Obviously the loss of All-America forward Tori Faieta will be the main obstacle for the team and main difference, but the expectation is that the team will be strong again behind Kelly Martin, a legitimate All-America candidate at point guard.”
Which player(s) do you expect to lead the team this season? Please name the captains if that has already been established.
“Captains: Paige Marshall, Shannon Brown and Kelly Martin.”
Is there one game you have circled on your calendar as your “game of the year”?
“Bentley… it’s always Bentley. One of the best small college rivalries in the country and probably the biggest women’s basketball rivalry in New England.”
Is there anything else you want fans to know about your team?
“Team expects to contend for the NE-10 Championship and make an NCAA Tournament bid. Program has made 23 NCAA Division II Tournament bids all-time, including each of the last three seasons, a total which is ranked fourth all-time in Division II history and second in the region (to Bentley).
Trisha Brown, the 2014-15 WBCA East Region Coach of the Year returns for her 15th season at Stonehill. She has posted a career record of 288-128 (.692) at the College.”
