Sure, there can be defensive stars on every team. However, a single defensive star doesn't guarantee anything. In basketball, team defense is very important.
These are the five best defenses in D2 women's basketball so far, ranked in order of points allowed.
Truman has only allowed 51.9 points per game to opposing offenses, and as a team they get 4.2 blocks and 7 steals per game. Michalina Tomczak leads the way on defense with 31 total blocks.
Only allowing their opponents to score 51.6 points per game, Black Hills sits at 4th in scoring defense. They're also snagging 11.5 steals per game. Christine Thorn, Jennie Scharn, Julia Seamans, Rachel Erickson, and Bailey Kusser all average at least one steal for this scrappy bunch.
West Texas A&M

One of only two teams in D2 Women's Basketball that allow fewer than 50 points per game, American International allows just 49.8. They also add 10.5 steals per game. Brianna Bishop has pitched in 27 steals and Kamika Mason 19 blocks and 14 steals.
The top defensive unit in D2 Women's Basketball, Delta State has allowed opposing offenses just 47.8 points per game.
