There are certain players in D1 Women's Basketball that keep opposing coaches up late at night. Whether they have superior speed, phenomenal athleticism or are as tall as a tree, opponents have to tailor their game plan to these athletes. Lets take a look at some of the best players near the rim that are at least 6-feet-6:
5. Mercedes Russell, Tennessee
Mercedes Russell was on fire as a freshman for BR-24 Tennessee, but then she missed her second season to have surgery on both feet. Now the redshirt sophomore is back and better than ever. Russell already has 33 blocks down low — 7 behind her season total of 40 as a freshman — and ranks second in the SEC in swats per game with 2.14. She also has 168 points (11.2 per game) through 14 contests and has pulled down 128 rebounds (8.5 pg). The Oregon native now has 73 career blocks, 302 rebounds and 390 points in less than two full seasons on the floor for the Lady Vols.
