The time has come to honor the best tennis players in the country at the D1 level with the honorees for HERO of The Week. Each week we will have a list of nominees for you to vote for that stood out in competition over the week prior.
Voting will take place in the poll at the bottom of this article following the list of nominees. Voting only takes place in the poll, and the voting will close on Friday at 10:00 a.m. PST for each poll.
Without further ado, here are the nominees for HERO of The Week!
Elizabeth Profit, Tennessee
Profit was the only winner for the Vols in a match with South Carolina, but her win was much bigger than a team accomplishment. For her own personal record, she took down the 29th ranked player in D1 in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
Carla Touly, Florida State
Touly was a two-time winner for the Seminoles against NC State as she won her singles match in a ranked faceoff in straight sets. But the bigger accomplishment was her doubles win with partner Ariana Rahmanparast as the duo took out the 13th ranked pairing of D1 7-6.
Lucy Harper, UWM
Harper was one of many winners for Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a dual match with in-state foe and D3 member Wisconsin-Whitewater. Her win was one of the more impressive ones though, as she limited her opponent to just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 sweep.
Eden Richardson, LSU
Richardson returns to the nomination list after a big upset win against her opponent from Arkansas. After dropping the first set 2-6, the Tiger standout responded in a big way with straight set victories to claim the win over the 87th ranked player in D1.
Luisa Echeverry, Akron
The Zips player turned in a masterful performance against her foe from YSU. Going fifth in the singles rotation, she won in straight sets giving up just one game in each set.
Madeline Melch, Bucknell
Taking on IUP from D2, Melch was able to pick up the slack of some of her earlier singles teammates and get a big win over her foe from the Crimson Hawks. Melch completely shut out her foe, winning both sets 6-0 in a sweep.
Kristina Breisacher, UC Davis
Breisacher had a big upset of Marianna Petrei from Idaho as she took down the 39th ranked Petrei in straight sets.
