Saint Rose women’s soccer used a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play this past weekend to hold steady at #4 in the latest HeroSports Div. II women’s soccer poll.
The Golden Knights have on all six of their matches on the year, tallying a total of 23 goals. Over Southern New Hampshire, Carmelina Puopolo recorded a hat trick, pushing her season goal total to 10 already.
Puopolo also scored three goals in a 6-0 victory over Holy Family earlier this year, adding two goals in a 2-1 win vs. Mercy.
But it’s not just Puopolo doing the damage for the Saint Rose offense, as six others scored in the opener alone. Puopolo also has four assists, while Jennifer Busk has assisted on five goals.
None of this is really new to the Golden Knights or head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil. The veteran leader has amassed the seventh most wins among active coaches in Div. II with over 280, including the school’s first-ever national title in 2011.
They have made it to five other semifinal rounds overall and won six league titles – including each since 2007 outside of the 2012 season.
With all that offense, Ashley Homer has allowed just one goal. She has 12 saves in over 550 minutes of net play, including five shutouts.
A battle of Top-5 conference foes ended in a 0-0 draw Tuesday night, as neither Saint Rose or Adelphi could slip a goal past the defense.
