Shippensburg Football Wins National Signing Day … And It’s Not Even Close

HERO Sports by HERO Sports
February 3, 2016

Never mind that college football fans won’t know the true “winners” of 2016 National Signing Day for at least two, maybe three years. When you consider that most football programs will redshirt incoming freshman to the program (this is more prevalent in FBS and FCS than in D2), the true impact of an incoming signing class won’t be determined this week or in spring ball or, for that matter, when the season kicks off on Sept. 1.

That doesn’t mean we can’t declare a “winner” in the most creative day in the college football calendar.

Apologies to Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh (well, maybe not so much Harbaugh) and Dabo Swinney for losing out on this prestigious honor to this Central Pennsylvania school.

And, contrary to popular belief, this Central Pennsylvania school is not situated in State College, so James Franklin couldn’t “dominate the state” as he so boldly proclaimed the Nittany Lions would do when he took over in Happy Valley. (Side note: if you can’t even beat Temple on the field, how Penn State even could even close to “dominating” the state is a mystery to anybody – but that’s another rant for another time).

Nope, sorry, guys. Shippensburg head coach Mark Maciejewski and his staff put together this version of Jeopardy! to introduce the Red Raider faithful to the 2016 signing class.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

To celebrate #SigningDay, Shippensburg University football plays Jeopardy to learn all about the new members of the family

The college football world anxiously awaits 2017 when one can only hope that someone can be half as creative as the D2 school which gave the football world all-pro studs John Kuhn and Brent Grimes. Maybe we’ll see “The Ohio State Match Game” with Meyer in the Charles Nelson Reilly role (only question would be: who hosts it?) or even “Tuscaloosa Squares” with Saban in the centre square.

Perhaps such a gimmick could be broadcast live on one of the 2,505 networks of ESPN. It might draw better ratings than the Stephen A. Smith/Skip Bayless screamfest that masquerades as a sports-talk debate show…

Nah, who am I kidding…
