The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will release its final rankings for the 2025 season beginning at noon ET today, Dec. 7. The unveiling of the rankings will be televised on ESPN.
The College Football Playoff will feature 12 teams, just like last season, and will include at least one Group of Five program. But this year, it could be two.
The five highest-ranked conference champions in the FBS – decided by the CFP selection committee – will make the field, as well as the next seven highest-ranked teams. Unlike last year, the top four teams will have a first-round bye. In 2024, the top-ranked conference champions received a bye.
Those top four highest-ranked teams will appear in a bowl game, like the Sugar Bowl, and the four teams playing in the two semifinal games will also be assigned to another bowl. The higher seeds of the remaining teams will host in the opening round.
