The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will release its first rankings for the 2024 season at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The unveiling of the rankings will be televised on ESPN.
The College Football Playoff will feature 12 teams for the first time this season and will include at least one Group of Five program.
The five highest-ranked conference champions in the FBS – decided by the CFP selection committee – will make the field, as well as the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The four conference title winners ranked the highest will earn a bye, while the remaining squads will compete in the first round.
The higher seeds in those matchups will host in the opening round. The top-four conference winners with the bye will be given a bowl game, like the Sugar Bowl, and the four teams playing in the two semifinal games will also be assigned to another bowl.

CFP Bracket Predictions
I predict No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Georgia, and No. 4 Miami will be the top four teams in the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s rankings. Remember, the four highest-ranked conference champions will get a first-round bye, so that means Oregon and Ohio State can’t both get a bye. This is simply a prediction that the CFP Selection Committee will rank those programs the highest.
Here are the teams I’m predicting will be in the CFP’s top 12, in order.
- No. 1 Oregon
- No. 2 Ohio State
- No. 3 Georgia
- No. 4 Miami
- No. 5 Penn State
- No. 6 Texas
- No. 7 Tennessee
- No. 8 Alabama
- No. 9 BYU
- No. 10 Indiana
- No. 11 Notre Dame
- No. 12 Boise State
College Football Playoff Field Projection
I predict Texas, Oregon, Miami, and BYU will be the top four teams in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.
From there, I project the conference championship winner ranked the next highest will be Boise State, and I believe the CFP Selection Committee will rank the Broncos No. 10.
From there, I’m projecting Georgia, Alabama, SMU, Tennessee, Penn State, Indiana, and Notre Dame will be in the CFP.
