When Does the Transfer Portal Open?
The NCAA Division I Administrative Committee recently voted to eliminate the spring transfer window and have a single transfer window at the end of the fall semester. However, the start date and length of that window has yet to be finalized.
Players used to have a 30-day window the Monday after FBS conference championship games, and anyone playing in postseasons like the College Football Playoff or bowl games would get an extra five days in January. Then the second window in late April would give athletes another chance to enter the portal.
Players can transfer to a different school at any time as long as their names are in the transfer portal. They just can’t enter their names into the portal except during a designated transfer window.
