Tulane might be on the cusp of losing its head coach. Jon Sumrall is reportedly in the mix for several Power Four head coaching jobs.
But the Green Wave don’t want to worry about that just yet. They have an American Conference Championship appearance and a potential College Football Playoff berth to worry about.
Tulane, at 9-2 overall, is ranked 24th this week by the CFP Selection Committee and is the only Group of Five team that’s in the top 25. That essentially means if the Green Wave keep winning, they’ll appear in the College Football Playoff.
The Green Wave are also 6-1 in the American standings, and they need just one more win to earn a spot in the conference championship game next week. And that one win will have to be against Charlotte today.
The 49ers are at the bottom of the league standings. They’re 0-7 against conference opponents and 1-10 overall with their only victory being against FCS Monmouth. In fact, none of their losses this season have even been decided by single digits.

Charlotte vs. Tulane Prediction
I predict Tulane will win and cover the 29.5-point spread. I also project the game will go Over 52.5 total points.
The Green Wave weren’t extremely consistent on the offensive side of the ball to start the year, but I like how they’ve been playing in recent weeks. They’ve scored at least 35 points in each of their last three contests at Memphis, against FAU, and at Temple.
And now they get to return home for their regular season finale with plenty on the line.
With Jake Retzlaff at quarterback as well as Shazz Preston, Omari Hayes, and Bryce Bohanon at wide receiver, I think Tulane’s offense will continue to thrive.
And I believe Tulane will take advantage of the matchup with Charlotte, which is allowing the fourth-most points in the country (37.2 per game) and the third-most yards (472.7 per contest).
I also think Tulane’s defense will put together a strong performance against the 49ers, who are scoring the fifth-fewest points in the FBS (15.6 per game).
I just don’t foresee a well-coached team like Tulane letting this game be unnecessarily close.
