When Does The College Football Transfer Portal Open?

The NCAA FBS Oversight Committee recently voted to move the start of the transfer window to Friday, Jan. 2. The transfer window would be open for 10 days.

This also eliminates the spring transfer window. The Division I Administrative Committee has to approve these changes first, and that vote is expected to happen by the end of September.

Players used to have a 30-day window the Monday after FBS conference championship games, and anyone playing in postseasons like the College Football Playoff or bowl games would get an extra five days in January. Then the second window in late April would give athletes another chance to enter the portal.

Players can transfer to a different school at any time as long as their names are in the transfer portal. They just can’t enter their names into the portal except during the transfer window.
