Trey Moore just has a knack for making plays behind the line of scrimmage.
In his first season as a starter at UTSA, Moore broke former Roadrunners star Marcus Davenport’s single-season tackles for loss record, recording 18. The following year, he set the program’s single-season record with 14 sacks and was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Moore spent the past two seasons at Texas, where he continued to rush the passer while also adjusting to a new role as an off-ball linebacker, which put him in more coverage situations than he faced early in his career.
Moore finished his college career with 30.5 sacks. That kind of production at a premium position had him on the radar of plenty of teams heading into this weekend’s NFL Draft.

Trey Moore’s 40 Time & Pro Day Results
Many draft analysts saw Moore as a late-round pick or potential undrafted free agent heading into the NFL Combine, but his stock was on the rise by the time he left Indianapolis.
Moore ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds, which ranked No. 4 among EDGE rushers who competed in the event at the combine. Ohio State’s Arvell Reese, a likely top-five pick, led the group with a time of 4.46 seconds.
Moore’s 10-yard split of 1.6 seconds also ranked No. 4 among EDGE rushers, and he posted a time of 4.43 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle. He added a 38.5-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot broad jump.
Moore checked in at 6-foot-1 and 243 pounds at the combine.
Trey Moore’s Stats & Highlights
Moore dominated the competition in the Group of Five from the moment he stepped on the field at UTSA. He earned freshman All-American honors after he started all 14 games and posted 59 tackles, eight sacks, and five pass breakups to go along with his program-record 18 tackles for loss in 2022.
He was even more dominant in 2023. He racked up at least three sacks in a game three times, including a season-high 3.5 against UAB, and added 17.5 more tackles for loss to his already impressive resume.
Sacks were a little more difficult to come by in the SEC, but Moore still got to the quarterback 5.5 times and added 9.5 tackles for loss in 16 starts during his first season at Texas.
He wasn’t in the starting lineup as frequently while adjusting to life as an off-ball linebacker last season, but he still managed three sacks and five tackles for loss.
Moore finished his college career with 50 TFLs.
Where Is Trey Moore From?
Moore is from San Antonio, Texas, and he played at Smithson Valley High School. He was named District 27-6A Defensive Player of the Year after putting up 70 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and eight sacks as a senior.
Moore was unrated as a prospect by 247Sports coming out of high school, but he earned four-star status by the time he entered the transfer portal in late 2023.
Trey Moore Draft Profile & Comparison
NFL scouts greatly value athletic pass rushers. That’s why EDGE rushers are some of the highest-paid players in the NFL.
Moore has proven he has the athleticism and instincts to win a one-on-one matchup with a tackle. He has multiple pass-rush moves in his arsenal, and he has a lightning-quick first step.
The problem is he’s not quite big enough to stand up against the run, and he’s not experienced enough in coverage or a sure enough tackler to be an every down linebacker in the NFL.
My NFL comparison for Moore is Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. Both are undersized but have the athleticism and instincts to navigate traffic and make plays in space.
