NFL Schedule 2019: The Intriguing, the Eyebrow-Raising, and the Absurd

NFL Schedule 2019: The Intriguing, the Eyebrow-Raising, and the Absurd

We've all had time to digest the 2019 NFL schedule, which includes memorizing all the primetime and holiday matchups that will have our full attention. A deeper dive into each team's slate reveals some incredibly odd scheduling quirks, to say the least. Here's a whole batch of them that caught my attention.

Scheduling Gods Hate Buccaneers

Not only does Tampa Bay have to travel approximately 18,000 miles this season, but it also won't play a home game at Raymond James Stadium from Week 4 to Week 9 thanks to four straight road games sandwiched around a London "home" contest and a bye week.

Bye-Bye 49ers and Jets

The beauty of a bye week is giving teams much-needed rest to help heal banged-up bodies. For San Francisco and the New York Jets, however, their bye week arrives much too early in Week 4. That means 13 straight weeks of football without a break.

New York, New York

The Bills will get to know the visiting locker room of MetLife Stadium quite well as it's forced to open the season with back-to-back road games at the Jets and Giants, respectively.

Miami Goes Night Swimming in Pittsburgh

The team with the worst odds of making the 2019 playoffs get only one primetime contest, and it's at the Steelers.

The Dolphins will need your thoughts and prayers.

AFC North Gauntlet

From Week 4 to 6, the Ravens face three straight AFC North battles, preceded by a Week 3 trip to Kansas City. If Lamar Jackson and company don't have their act together early in the year, the squad's division title hopes could be up in smoke at the midway point.

Home Sweet Home

After an Oct. 13 trip to Baltimore, the Bengals won't see the road again until Nov. 17 thanks to three home games and a bye.

Giving Thanks?

While it's nice to spend Thanksgiving at home, the Lions and Cowboys will come off road contests with only four days to get ready. Atlanta, the other holiday home squad, gets to stay at home the weekend before its turkey day affair with the Saints.

Advantage, Falcons, as they look to avenge last year's 31-17 Thanksgiving defeat to New Orleans.

The final home game for the Oakland Raiders before moving to Las Vegas pits them against one of their biggest rivals in team history: the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wait … what?!
