With approximately 100 million daily active users, Snapchat is a rapidly growing social platform that should be in your social media arsenal. Besides, who doesn’t love that little white ghost? Here are a few tips to help you conquer your marketing goals and build excitement for your sports teams and events.

Tell your Fans you have a Snapchat!

Utilize the social platforms you are already managing, like Twitter and Facebook, to let fans know that you even have a Snapchat! Tweet or post your Snapchat handle and watch the followers pour in.

Take Snaps from A Unique Vantage Point

Have someone from your athletic department who is covering a sporting event take footage at a game or practice from the floor or press box. Taking shots/video from an up-close or exclusive view will give fans a perspective that is not available to them if they are not following your account.

Be Creative/Mix Up Your Snapchat Content

Fans aren’t looking for something that is extremely high quality and thoroughly planned out on Snapchat. Be creative and fun, and mIx up the content you are capturing. Take both videos and pictures, some that are more serious and others more comical!

Create a Geofilter

Although there are a bunch of Snapchat filters already available to Snapchatters, you can create your own geofilter to be available to fans at certain times and locations. This is a great way to promote your school, school sports teams, and/or an upcoming event!

To create a geofilter, all you’ll have to do is design your filter, determine where/when you’d like your graphic to be available, and submit it for approval to Snapchat.

Conduct a Snapchat Takeover

Have a coach or member of one of your sports teams “takeover” your Snapchat account. You can do a takeover weekly, monthly or for a specific event. 

Have your athlete take Snaps to help fans understand what it’s like to be a student-athlete at your school. Your Snapchat Takeover doesn’t even have to be centered around sports! Giving fans a glimpse into what a “day in the life” looks like will help fans connect with your student-athletes.

Have your student-athlete answer these questions through pictures and videos they create:
 

What time do you wake up?
What do you do after you wake up? 
What do you eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner? 
Where do you eat your meals?
How do you get to school/practice? 
Who do you hang out with? 
When do you study?
How do you/your team prep for a game?
What happens on a travel day?
Who dances in the locker room?

Reuse Your Snaps and Share on Other Social Platforms

When you create your Snaps for your Snapchat Story, you have the option to save these videos and images. You can re-purpose this content and promote it on the other social channels you are already managing. 

Forbes estimates, “over 60% of Americans between the ages of 13 and 38 are Snapchat users.” Sharing on other platforms will ensure that all of your fans receive your content and not just the younger audiences that primarily habituate Snapchat.

Conduct Interviews

Ask questions to players, coaches, fans and record their answers. You can ask any random question  to your athletes, coaches, and staff.
