BYU was a charter member of the Mountain West, starting the eight-team league in 1999 alongside Air Force, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, San Diego State, Utah and Wyoming. The Cougars left the conference 10 years later, and now 10 years after that, is it time to talk about a return?
“We are in a league where to be blunt, I don’t know if it’s the route maybe we should go,” Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun said two weeks ago. "…I just don’t know if it’s really a match. I don’t know if it’s best."
If Air Force does leave and the Mountain West wishes to stay at 12 members, might they press BYU?
This week on the High Motor podcast, B.J. Rains of the Idaho Press-Tribune talked about Calhoun's comments (is he taking them seriously?) and who the conference might target if Air Force does leave.
