FCS: Kennesaw State’s Isaac Foster Is A Special-Teams Standout

FCS: Kennesaw State’s Isaac Foster Is A Special-Teams Standout

Sean Wright is a HERO Sports campus correspondent who specializes in coverage of FCS teams in the southeast. Residing in the Greater Atlanta area, he knows the talent that courses through that area of the country, and he writes about it. You can follow Sean on Twitter @SeanWright82.

Kennesaw State’s Issac Foster is a sophomore running back from Summerville, Georgia.

As a freshman, Foster received All-Big South special teams first team, Big South special teams player of the year and HERO Sports Freshmen All-America first team.

Foster was the only player in FBS and FCS last year to have two 100-yard returns. A player having scored on a kickoff return is a good achievement, period. Two 100-yard returns is unheard of.

“That was really special. It was pretty cool. Big thing to accomplish. I was blessed," he told HERO Sports. “In high school, I played QB. When I got here at KSU, all I did was special teams. I tried to find my way on the bus”, Foster replied when asked has he always been a stellar special teams player.

Foster played quarterback in high school, where his rushing yards almost tripled his passing yards as a junior. He ended up being the all-time leader in points at Chattooga High School and was first-team all 7-AA all four years of high school. To put it in simple terms, he was "the man." Foster figured his best chance to showcase what he could provide at running back was to standout on special teams, and he wasn’t wrong.

The most significant element is he’s embraced the role.

“Just having space when I catch back there to make something happen. Time to read and react,” he told HERO Sports when asked what he enjoyed most about returning.

This speaks to Foster’s willingness to do whatever to be on the field and displays his selflessness.

Foster has had a couple of monstrous games so far this season. He had eight carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns against Missouri State. He finished with six carries for 237 yards and two touchdowns against Reinhardt University.

Foster is an amazing running back but contributes a lot of his opportunity to grinding and shining on special teams.
