Florida State's 36-year bowl streak — the longest in college football — was almost certain to end following a 35-3 loss to Boston College two weeks ago. The streak has new life after the Seminoles rescheduled their game against UL-Monroe.

The game, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9, was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. While the schools did not definitively say it would not be rescheduled at the time, it was widely assumed the game would not be played at a later date.
But then Florida State lost to North Carolina State … and Miami (FL), Louisville and Boston College to give them a 2-5 record. Though they rebounded with an ugly home win over Syracuse in Week 10, the 'Noles still needed to win out to reach the postseason for a 37th consecutive year. That wasn't happening because they play at Clemson in Week 11.
But if they can beat Delaware State on Nov. 18 and Florida on Nov. 25, they'll have a chance at bowl eligibility vs. UL-Monroe on Dec. 2, which was announced on Tuesday as the date for the rescheduled game.
FSU did not say — nor should they, or will they — the game was rescheduled only to keep the bowl streak alive but it appears to be a safe guess. And, honestly, good for them. It's been a brutal year and an extra couple weeks of practice may help set the tone for a rebound in 2018.
