One of the best ways to scratch that college football off-season itch in the past was to continue playing the latest installment of that year's EA Sports college football video game. There have been some legit rumors that the all-time classic could be returning in 2019, but sadly we are still waiting for the NCAA football video game comeback to come to fruition.

Bill Walsh College Football '95
An absolute game-changer for passionate college football fans everywhere. It was built upon the same engine that was helping the Madden franchise take off like a rocket, and it was the first to have real colleges, uniforms, and logos. Thirty-six teams were featured, and it was a total blast to run formations like the wishbone with schools like Air Force.
I may or may not have spent more time playing this game than studying my textbooks at the time.

College Football USA 96
The Bill Walsh series was rebranded as College Football USA 96, and it was the first version to have all 108 teams playing at the D-1 level at the time. One of the many upgrades included over 400 plays to choose from and the ability to send 5 wide receivers out at once and target any of them.
Two fun facts about the game: It was the only time the Pacific Tigers would appear in a video game as the program shuttered its football doors after the completion of the 1995 season. It was also the only time the Southwest Conference would appear as it disbanded around that time following some of the biggest scandals in sports history, including the "death penalty" handed down to SMU.

NCAA Football 98
New year, new name, and the new ability to take advantage of the multi-season Dynasty Mode. This enabled you to essentially act as the head coach of a major program for four seasons and to recruit new talent to take over roster spots vacated by graduating seniors.
It also marked the first time the EA franchise had the NCAA name and logo after striking a licensing deal.

NCAA Football 07
The 2007 version of the cult classic had the Turn the Tide feature, which was a momentum meter that gave players a boost on the team that had that "momo" on their side.

"It's so hard. To say goodbye. To yesterday."
Until we see a new version of the NCAA football game hit the shelves, this version featuring Denard Robinson of Michigan on the cover remains the most current edition you can play.
