Talk about a comeback for the ages…
A BR-95 Stonehill Hail Mary pass capped a run of 20 straight Skyhawk points in the final 62 seconds in a shocking 40-37 win over BR-65 LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y.
Here’s the video of the onside kick and the game winning Hail Mary, a 41 yard touchdown pass from Matt Foltz to Corey White with 5.9 seconds left.
With the Skyhawks trailing 37-20, Foltz threw a 13 yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Lutton with 1:02 remaining to make the score 37-27 after the Steve Grzywacz point after kick.
The Pioneers went three-and-out on their ensuing possession, buoyed by a personal foul on an LIU Post player for pulling an opponent off the pile, a new rule being enforced this season.
Four plays later, Foltz found Dave Harrison on an 11-yard touchdown pass to make it 37-34 LIU Post, setting up a dramatic final 5.9 seconds.
The Skyhawks recovered the ensuing onside kick at the LIU Post 41. Foltz then took the snap out of the shotgun, rolled to his right, then his left, dodging would-be tacklers before unleashing a pass down the near sideline and right into White’s hands, sending the Stonehill partisans among the 1,650 in attendance at Hickox Field into a frenzy.
