Heisman bettors hoping to get a discounted rate on Sam Darnold after an uneven Week 1 performance may be disappointed after seeing the USC quarterback still has the third-best odds to win college football's highest individual honor.
Darnold went 23-for-33 for 289 yards and two interceptions in the Trojans closer-than-expected win over Western Michigan. After throwing at least two touchdowns in each of their final nine games last year, the sophomore signal-caller didn't throw a single touchdown on Saturday. Despite the underwhelming game, Darnold's Heisman odds are +700, just behind Lamar Jackson (+400) and Baker Mayfield (+600).
"It's just stuff that we have to go through," Darnold said after the game. "You're going to have little mistakes. You're going to have setbacks, but we have to learn from them and get better."

They'll have to get a lot better if they expect to reach the College Football Playoff, where they could face J.K. Dobbins and Ohio State. The Buckeyes' freshman running back starred in their win over Indiana, compiling 205 total yards, and suddenly joins teammate J.T. Barrett (+800) in the Heisman race. Dobbins is tied for 14th with +3300 odds.
