Good Hell this season is going fast. Pretty soon we'll be talking about Week 7 of the … wait, what? It is Week 7? OK, so next week we'll be at the midway point of the 2017 season, and pondering which teams look legit, and which ones look like they'll probably fall off a cliff at some point.

Kickers don't get enough attention. So, I'm dedicating my first Play of the Week entry to Wabash kicker Schuyler Nehrig, who scored all of his team's points in a 16-13 defeat against Ohio Wesleyan. Six of said points came off this wild play in which Nehrig attempted a 41-yard field goal, only to have it blocked. Rather than shrinking into a heap of nothingness, the quick-thinking kicker snatched the ball and hauled it into the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown.

Hampden-Sydney blew the socks off Apprentice 58-28, mainly because the Tigers could do whatever they pleased, including this magnificent leaping catch by receiver Cam Johnson.
The 6-foot-3 receiver amassed nine catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Someone stick Richard Sherman on this guy.

SWEET GAME-WINNING PASS LEADS OHIO NORTHERN TO W

It's hard to tell exactly what's happening here, but when a team converts a game-winning score in overtime against John Carroll they deserve a pat on the back. With the game tied at 20, Ohio Northern QB Will Freed threw a missile into the end zone between numerous defenders — who all went, "Woa?" — and hit Caleb Saalfield for the TD. I have no idea how he threaded this pass … and it will likely remain one of life's great mysteries.
Freed finished the game with 328 yards and three TDs, while Saalfeld pulled down three receptions for 64 yards and a score.

This kind of play doesn't usually work, but when it does the results are magical. Case in point: Westminster v Grove City. While the game eventually turned into a 49-27 blowout in the final period, with 1:32 left in the third quarter the outcome was still very much in doubt. So, when the team attempted one of those fake handoff plays, it seemed a little absurd … until it worked. Here we have QB Paul Columbo handing off to his RB Bryce Hill, who then hands it off to a wide receiver (?), who then hands it back to Columbo, who then hits Connor Cox for a 45-yard TD.
Columbo finished with 231 passing yards and four scores.

Here's another play where something amazing happens, but the angle doesn't really give us a good look at how it happened. All I know St. Scholastica return man Jack Peru pulled down the rock, vanished into a bunch of people and somehow reemerged from the pack for a 77-yard TD run. Maybe he used teleporting?
St. Scholastica pummeled Martin Luther 56-21.
