Should the New York Giants Bring Back Former JMU RB Khalid Abdullah?

Should the New York Giants Bring Back Former JMU RB Khalid Abdullah?

Khalid Abdullah starred for JMU football during the Dukes' title run last season, but found himself on the outside looking in after final NFL cuts this summer. After a dismal showing in week 1, should the New York Giants give him another shot?

The Giants looked downright terrible on offense in week one against the Dallas Cowboys, scoring ony a field goal in a 19-3 loss.

Eli Manning couldn't get anything going in the passing game without Odell Beckham Jr. on the field, and he finished the night 29-of-38 for 220 yards and an interception.

The running game was even worse. New York ran it just 12 times and only gained 35 yards on the ground. Paul Perkins led the way with 7 carries for just 16 yards, averaging a paltry 2.3 yards per carry.

Orleans Darkwa came in for 14 yards on 3 carries, but it was a rough night all around for the G-men.

In the aftermath, do the Giants need to make a move at the running back position? New York fans likely think that Beckham Jr. will return to the lineup and everything will be gravy, but it's hard to believe the offense can muster a turnaround built on just one player.

If they decide to take another look at the running backs, Abdullah should be one of their first calls.

He knows the system — he was there in training camp until the final cuts. The Giants don't have a running back on their practice squad that they can call up, so he's a logical choice.

Abdullah was prolific for JMU in college, and the Dukes have shown they are at the height of FCS ball. He didn't get a ton of touches for the Giants in the preseason, carrying the ball 4 times for 10 yards and catching 3 passes for 16 yards.

The offense's problems should also not be blamed entirely on the running game, as dismal as it was in week 1.

But sometimes a shakeup early in the season can send a message, and calling on Abdullah would do just that.

So should the Giants bring back Kahlid Abdullah?
