FCS school rarely get kids who rate out as high-end 3-star prospects, but BR-22 Samford defied that unwritten rule on Monday night when it landed ATH TaDarryl Marshall out of Leeds (Ala.).
Marshall is a speedy 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback/quarterback who was a long-time BR-8 Tennessee commitment before having his scholarship rescinded in December. The school can't comment on the circumstances, but Marshall made it sound in December like it was a "business decision" by Tennessee that changed everything.
Marshall reported official visits to Arizona, Kentucky and Illinois this month, but in the end he decided the FCS and Samford were the home for him and he Tweeted out his commitment for the world to see. Samford has a dandy class developing with 17 players now on board, led by Marshall and pro-style QB Liam Welch of Augusta (Ga.) and a trio of outstanding receivers in Coutrell Plair, Yassar El-Amin and Robert Adams. All three pass targets have come on board just in the past 10 days, while Welch has been the rock of the class since July.

"Home- the place where one lives permanently. Especially as a member of a family. I realized that home is hwere I would strive and become the person I want to be in my years to come. The recruitiment process is nothing to play with and can tear you down just as fast as it builds you up. The group of coaches showed me what the phrase 'Home away from home' truly meant. I'm staying home. For the next chapter of my life I will be following and finishing my father's footsteps at the University of Samford."
