NFL DRAFT: 5 Fits for the Washington Redskins at No. 17

2016: 8-7-1, third place NFC East
2017 DRAFT: No. 17

Offensive Ranks

TOTAL PASSING RUSHING YPC SACKS
403.4 (3rd) 297.4 (2nd) 106.0 (21st) 4.5 (7th) 23 (4th)

Defensive Ranks

TOTAL PASSING RUSHING YPC SACKS
377.9 (28th) 258.1 (25th) 119.8 (24th) 4.5 (27th) 38 (9th)

NEEDS

1. DT — Chris Baker is a free agent, as is Cullen Jenkins, and it's a decent draft for interior defenders.
2. ILB — Washington is in luck since the 2017 class is loaded with ILBs.
3.   S — A free safety with elite range would be ideal to pair with CB Josh Norman.
4. WR — Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jacks are each free agents; Cousins needs more weapons despite the presence of Jamison Crowder. They do have loads of cap space, though a good chunk of that likely goes to Kirk Cousins no matter which way his contract is sliced.

John Ross, WR — Washington

Ross is considered a DeSean Jackson clone with top-end speed and the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. He's also a threat on kick returns and worked to add strength and physicality to his game.

Malik McDowell, DT — Michigan

McDowell is described as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT with the ability to push the pocket up the middle, which may be Washington's only pass-rush weakness. Jay Gruden's new defensive coordinator Greg Manusky has made it clear he wants to improve the run defense and McDowell excels in this area, too — all 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds of him.

Jabrill Peppers, S — Michigan

Peppers may be more versatile than Jamal Adams and a bigger hitter than Malik Hooker, the other two surefire first-round safety talents in the class. Peppers would be an asset versus the pass, but could also be used effectively closer to the line of scrimmage on run plays.

Zach Cunningham, ILB — Vanderbilt

Cunningham is generating buzz as both an inside linebacker as well as outside. At 6-foot-4 and 234 pounds, he's a bit lighter than other ILBs but has speed and toughness to make up for it. He's also likely to pack on another 8-10 pounds. He grades out exceptionally in terms of range and coverage, offering a sideline-to-sideline 'backer with the ability to cover tight ends and running backs.

Jarrad Davis, ILB — Florida

Davis is a prototypical inside linebacker at 6-foot-1 and just under 240 pounds with strengths in tackling and range. Pairing Davis with Mason Foster in the middle immediately improves the run defense.
