The Atlanta Dream announced a pair of roster moves early this week with the addition of free agent Kaela Davis and the waiving of Alexis Jones.
Davis was originally drafted by the Dallas Wings as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. The six-foot-two guard spent the previous three seasons with the franchise but was not signed back prior to the 2020 season. Davis averaged 5.7 points, 1.9 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game during her three seasons in the league. Davis holds a great deal of potential and given the right situation, could have a breakout opportunity ahead of her in Atlanta.
Davis arrived at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida last week where she immediately began the COVID-19 quarantine protocol. She is scheduled to take the court with the team on Thursday, August 27 for practice and will be able to compete for their game against the Minnesota Lynx later in the week.
Alexis Jones signed with the Dream prior to the start of this season following stints with Los Angeles and Minnesota. Jones appeared in six games for the Dream this season averaging 4.1 points in nine minutes per game.
Despite their early season struggles, Atlanta has been without their leading scorer and rookie star Chennedy Carter, who battled an ankle injury two weeks ago. Carter warmed up with the team over the weekend but did not play, she is expected to make her return this week.
Atlanta currently sits at 3-11 on the season and are currently at 11th place. They’re coming off a big win over the Minnesota Lynx over the weekend and will look to capitalize on that this week when they face the Washington Mystics this Wednesday, August 26 at 7:00pm ET on ESPN2.
