Las Vegas Aces head coach Bill Laimbeer was awarded Coach of the Month for the second-consecutive month the WNBA announced this week.
Laimbeer led the Aces to a 6-1 overall record for the month while securing the No. 1 seed in the 2020 WNBA Playoffs. In August, the Aces finished 11-1 with key wins over then first-placed Seattle and third-placed Los Angeles. The Aces finished the season with an overall record of 18-4 earning themselves a double-bye to the playoff semi-finals.
The double-bye is important from a rest perspective. The WNBA semi-finals formatted as a best-of-five series which begins on Sunday, September 20.
The Aces finished the regular season leading the league in scoring and rebounds at 88.7 points per game and 37.4 rebounds per game. They rank in the top five in assists per game (3rd) and field goal percentage (3rd). Aces superstar A’ja Wilson finished the season ranked second in scoring at 20.5 points per game and a highly touted favorite for Most Valuable Player.
The WNBA Coach of the Month honor was created prior to the 2017 season. Laimbeer has taken home four total honors, three with the Aces and one with the New York Liberty.
Laimbeer is one of the favorites for WNBA Coach of the Year, an awards expected to be released later this week.
