Play a More Reasonable Schedule

BYU is not Notre Dame, and so far playing a tough schedule as an FBS independent isn't going nearly as well for the Cougars as it is the Irish.
This year's schedule was brutal right out of the gate. After starting the season a week early on August 26 in what was dubbed "week 0," the Cougars hosted #13 LSU, hated rivals Utah, and #10 Wisconsin all in a row. Throw in a road contest at Mississippi State and these are easily four of the toughest games on any squad's schedule.
Without the luxury of eight conference games, the Cougars have been forced to fill their slate over the years with Power 5 teams like West Virginia, Nebraska, Michigan, and more.
That's a far cry from having MWC foes like San Jose State and UNLV on the schedule every season.
