The VCU men’s basketball team is heading to the 2025 NCAA Tournament after winning the Atlantic 10. In the A10 tourney, it defeated St. Bonaventure 76-59, Loyola Chicago 62-55, and George Mason 68-63 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Rams are 28-6 overall this season and on a 3-game winning streak.
VCU NCAA Tournament Appearances
In 2025, VCU basketball will make its 20th appearance in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament.
The Rams also reached the tourney in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1996, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023.

VCU Basketball NCAA Tournament Wins
VCU has won 13 games in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament. The Rams have a 13-19 overall record in the Big Dance.
They own tournament wins over Long Island in 1981, La Salle in 1983, Northeastern in 1984, Marshall in 1985, Duke in 2007, USC/Georgetown/Purdue/Florida State/Kansas in a 2011 Final Four run, Wichita State in 2012, Akron in 2013, and Oregon State in 2016.
VCU Sweet 16 Appearances
The Rams have reached the Sweet Sixteen one time in 2011, also advancing to the Final Four that year. VCU defeated USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State, and Kansas before losing to Butler in the Final Four.
VCU Basketball Coach Ryan Odom Salary
Ryan Odom has a 2024-25 base salary of $1.8 million as VCU’s head coach.
Odom was hired as VCU’s 13th head coach on March 29, 2023. He led the Rams to a 24-14 record in his first season last year.
He arrived at VCU after two successful seasons as Utah State’s head coach, going 18-16 in 2021-22 and 26-9 in 2022-23. Before Utah State, Odom led UMBC from 2016 to 2021, totaling a 97-60 record in five seasons. Odom also had a one-year stint at Lenoir–Rhyne, going 21-10 in 2015-16 and advancing to the Division II Sweet 16.
