In Alabama's Week 1 win over Florida State, Texan Jalen Hurts had a passing touchdown and Kentucky native Damien Harris and Alabama native Bo Scarbrough combined for 117 yards and one score. Their production was aided by Iowan Ross Pierschbacher and Californian Jonah Williams.
Defensively, former New Jersey prep star Minkah Fitzpatrick suffocated the Seminoles' passing attack and Arizona native Levi Wallace had an interception.
Nick Saban and his staff went far and wide to assemble another title-caliber roster in 2017. The 118 players on their current roster hail from 24 different states (plus the District of Columbia) and 94 different cities (including D.C.). Fourteen states have at least two players, a group dominated by Alabama (42). Texas (13), Georgia (11) and Louisiana (10) are next, followed by Florida (seven), California (six) and Mississippi (six).
Seven Alabama cities have multiple players, led by Madison (eight), a mid-sized city 15 minutes southeast of Huntsville. Birmingham and Montgomery have four apiece, followed by Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Monroe (three). Four out-of-state cities have two players each: Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Baton Rouge, La., and Atlanta and Roswell, Ga.
Nineteen of Alabama's 59 offensive players hail from Alabama, while seven came from Texas, six from Georgia and five from California. Madison, Ala., is the most-represented offensive city (three).
