The 2020 college football will be played, according to 99 percent of 114 athletic directors surveyed by Stadium, though 75 percent of ADs believe the season will be delayed.
The survey, conducted by Brett McMurphy, comes one month after a similar survey, in which McMurphy asked 112 ADs to rank their optimism on the 2020 season being played from "1" (no season) to "10) "definitely a season." While no AD responded lower than 5 (50/50 chance the season is played), 20 percent of ADs responded with the "5," a notable number for a notoriously optimistic profession.
While the question was different in this survey, there seems to be increased optimism for the season…if you believe the ADs. Do they actually believe a season will be played? Or this is blind optimism to avoid mass outrage?
“There’s too much money at stake, it impacts too many people,” one Power Five AD told McMurphy. “If there’s no football, we will have bigger issues. This will be worse than the Great Depression and make the 1930s look like a cakewalk.”
