Scottie Montgomery made this Mother's Day one that Tia Chapman will never forget.
The second-year East Carolina head coach had great news for senior defensive end Kiante Anderson. But instead of telling the walk-on defensive end — a Greenville, S.C., native who transferred to ECU from St. Augustine's University in 2015 — he told Anderson's mother, Tia.
Montgomery visited Tia at her job at South Greenville Elementary School to deliver a Mother's Day present unlike any other. He informed Tia that her son had earned a full-ride scholarship for his final season with the Pirates. She then had the opportunity to call Kiante and tell him the good news.
