Khalid Hill is not happy he's "broke" while Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany counts his millions.
In addition to his full athletic scholarship, the Michigan fullback receives about $2,400 in cost-of-attendance stipends annually, according to CBS Sports. Though the value of the scholarship, stipends and other benefits aren't pennies, it hardly gives Hill financial freedom, unlike Delany.
USA Today reported that Delany, the conference commissioner since 1989, is set to earn $20 million in bonus in the near future. The payments are in addition to his seven-figure annual compensation, which was $2.4 million in 2015, the most recent year for which the conference provided a federal tax return. The return states that in July 2015 he "became fully eligible for future bonus payments pursuant to his employment contract".
Those payments exceed $20 million — for overseeing sports played by unpaid "amateur" athletes.
Hill was not happy, and rightfully so. The senior from Detroit tweeted a question that surely his fellow student-athletes and thousands of others were wonder: Who is Delany using to make that money?

But who knows, maybe the NFL's fullback decline will unexpectedly end; Hill will be a first-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and earn a multimillion-dollar contract. Or, more likely — if he gets an NFL shot — he'll join the zero current fullbacks with an average guaranteed annual salary of $2 million or more.
