Texas A&M was ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25 preseason rankings before the 2002 season. The Aggies climbed to No. 19 midway through September but dropped out of the Top 25 after an early-October loss to Texas Tech and never returned, finishing unranked in the final rankings.
Texas A&M was ranked in the AP Top 25 preseason rankings seven times over the last 20 years. In each of those seven instances, they finished lower in the final AP Top 25 rankings than where they started. In other words, Texas A&M was overrated by AP voters in 100 percent of the years in which voters believed the Aggies were a top-25 team.
