College Football Recruiting: Miami and Houston Produce More Top Recruits Than Any Other Cities

College Football Recruiting: Miami and Houston Produce More Top Recruits Than Any Other Cities

Georgia commit James Cook is the 16th-ranked college football recruit in the 2018 Rivals250. The Miami Central five-star running back and younger brother of Dalvin Cook is the fifth-ranked player from the state of Florida but the top-ranked player from Miami.

Cook is one of four Rivals250 players who play high school football in Miami, all of whom are ranked among the top 80 prospects. Since 2006, Miami high schools have produced 63 Rivals250 players, or an average of 4.8 per year. No other city has more than 40 total Rivals250 players over that same time.

Ranked seven spots above Cook is Anthony Cook (unrelated), a five-star defensive back from Houston. The Lamar High School star is one of seven Houston recruits in this year's Rivals250, which ranks second only to Bradenton, Fla., whose IMG Academy has 11 such players this year and 26 since 2016, also the most in the country.

Bradenton has ranked first each of the last two years (nine in 2017), while Houston was first in 2016. Miami has led (or tied) the nation in Rivals250 recruits six times and holds the record for most Rivals250 players in one year. Hurricanes' signees Marcus Forston (Northwestern High School) and Brandon Harris (Booker T. Washington High School) were among 12 top-250 recruits from Miami in 2008. A city outside of Florida or Texas has never earned the annual recognition outright.

Interactive Map: Which States Have Produced Most Rivals250 Recruits?

The more than 3,200 Rivals250 recruits since 2006 have come from 1,225 different cities, 50 of which have produced at least 10 recruits each and 150 of which have least five recruits each.

Here's an interactive map of those 150 cities with at least five recruits. Stay tuned for additional geographical breakdowns of college football recruiting over the last 13 years, and tweet at me (@Adoughty88) with questions about cities not displayed below.

Click the colored location tags beneath the map to filter it according to your preferences.
